Chartered in 1985, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). The UUA combines two traditions: Unitarian, with roots in 16th century Europe, and Universalist, founded in North America in the late 18th Century. The two faiths joined together in 1961. Now there are more than 1000 Unitarian Universalist congregations worldwide; along with them, we affirm and promote the following principles:
- the inherent worth and dignity of every person;
- justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
- acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
- a free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
- the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
- the goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
- respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.
